I’ve heard that some parents are finding Scratch Junior a little daunting. So I thought I would put together a few different resources to help you get started.
The Scratch Junior website has lots of good learning resources. A good place to start is the interface guide which is an interactive page that describes all of the different buttons:

There is a similar interactive page to describe the paint editor which can be used to customise or create your own characters or backgrounds:

The Scratch Junior app also has 8 sample projects right in the app that you can play and inspect.

Each sample project has several characters that have been animated to demonstrate different code blocks that may inspire your student to try something similar.
